Leadership for senior managers

The Leadership for Senior Managers programme equips participants with the confidence, insights and practical skills to meet the challenges of a changing health and social care system robustly and creatively. It also helps participants to realise their potential. By knowing what it is like to be on the receiving end of 'you', it's possible to become a more effective leader, able to deliver change in fast-moving environments.

Who is it for?

This programme is particularly useful for clinicians and managers within the NHS looking to take a step up into leadership roles. As a result of this programme you will be better placed to address the QIPP challenge of improving quality whilst making efficiency savings.

We also welcome senior managers from local government, community or social services, voluntary organisations and other public and private sector bodies linked to health and social care.

Benefits of this leadership development programme

People who attend this programme become leaders who know how to work smarter, not harder. They can operate within complex systems, read the politics and forge the alliances to make things happen. They leave with an even greater passion for the service and for improved patient care. They have increased their personal authority and resilience and improved their communication skills. Our feedback tells us that many go on to more senior posts within a year.

What will you do on this programme?

The programme is structured in four week-long modules, spread over several months. Much of the programme is residential, with sessions at The King's Fund in London.

Develop problem-solving skills

Participants get the chance to apply their consultancy skills to the issues faced by an NHS trust. Group and individual tasks encourage inner reflection and also take participants outside their current experience to unlock resourcefulness and creativity.

Become a more effective leader

Group work offers an opportunity to learn more about how participants influence and motivate others. The groups are designed to mirror real-life experiences. The group support, challenge and learn from each other, developing a high level of trust and mutual respect.

Benefit from one-to-one support

Participants work on their own issues in one-to-one sessions with the programme director. In the six months following the programme they also receive up to four hours of executive coaching to help meet identified development goals.
