Who is it for?
This programme is designed to support the development of experienced, recently appointed and aspiring medical directors and CCG leaders, as well as those who aspire to move beyond these roles. The term 'medical director' refers to any role as the most senior doctor in an organisation.
Benefits of this leadership development programme
Having experienced the challenge of being a medical director/CCG leader, you will already be familiar with the many responsibilities and opportunities of these roles. This programme will build on your achievements to date and pose the challenge you need to successfully navigate the complex organisation-wide agenda of corporate issues, such as strategy, finance, marketing, quality and leading change.
The programme will also enable you to increase your visibility and influence, in order to shape care beyond your organisation and in the wider NHS. It will equip you with the insights, skills and practical knowledge you need to be successful, and examines various career progressions from the medical director role, including chief executive and government minister.
What will you do on this programme?
This programme will enable you to excel in your current role, while providing the opportunity to reflect on your future career aspirations.
Our role is to support your successes. Before you start the programme, you will have a conversation with a programme team member. This is an opportunity for us to identify your own challenges to date and start working with you straight away.
The programme is delivered through four three-day modules and one follow-up day six months after the programme. Each module will include a coaching set to enable you to work with fellow participants on real-time issues you face, and to access one-to-one coaching from the programme director. You will be expected to negotiate full attendance with your organisation.
The programme offers experiential learning, structured around four key elements:
- expert insight and challenge
- reflection on and in action
- critical knowledge
- problem solving.
