Management and leadership for clinicians

The current financial squeeze has increased the requirement for services which ensure high quality and increased productivity, whilst enabling clinical professionals to function creatively and enthusiastically. As a clinical leader, you are well placed to develop these kinds of services and this increases the need for you to successfully transition into your management and leadership role.

Who is it for?

This programme is intended for anyone with a clinical background or training who is taking on, or planning to take on, a managerial or leadership role within the NHS. We look for similar numbers of participants from the following main groups:

  • nurses: ward managers; senior nurses; clinical nurse specialists; senior midwives; nursing or midwifery managers
  • doctors: specialist registrars; consultants; GPs
  • other clinical professionals: allied health professionals; senior therapists; radiographers; clinical psychologists; senior scientists, pharamacists and paramedics.

Benefits of this leadership development programme

You will strengthen your ability to assess priorities, manage time and lead change and will deepen your self-understanding by reflecting on your strengths and limitations.

The programme offers insights into the perspectives of those from other clinical disciplines, with differing personality types and communication styles, which can often be a source of conflict in relationships.

The programme will also introduce you to a network of colleagues within the health sector, which can provide a source of support to your development in the future.

What will you do on this programme?

This is an intensive five-day programme designed specifically for clinicians who are new to management and leadership roles.
