More about the GP Pathfinder conference

This conference examined the commissioning challenges that face GP Consortia. It looked in detail at issues including:

  • How will consortia cope with negotiating and managing contracts within the ‘any willing provider’ model that will need to meet both national standards and local requirements? And what are the individual risks to GPs?
  • How can consortia develop sound clinical and financial governance arrangements, including developing the right leadership and skills mix?
  • How will consortia manage the clinical and financial risks while reducing variation and improving quality?
  • How can consortia introduce systematic approaches to measuring and managing commissioning activities?
  • How can consortia ensure they meet the right conditions to be able to take over commissioning? How will the co-production of the authorisation process work in reality?
