Future challenges for the NHS

Looking ahead to the next five years

Date:
7 June 2010

In brief

The NHS is facing the most significant financial challenge in its history. The confirmation that the health budget will increase in real terms over the course of the parliament is good news for the NHS, although this is unlikely to be enough to keep pace with demand for services and cost pressures.

This conference explored the implications of the changing policy and political environment and considered how a coalition government might deliver a more constructive approach for those working in the NHS and leading health care organisations.

Presentations and talks from the conference

Anna Dixon – where is the NHS now?

Anna Dixon, Director of Policy at The King's Fund, reviews the achievements of the government and the NHS over the past 13 years.

Ben Page – The NHS, the election and after...

Ben Page, Chief Executive at Ipsos MORI, explained how the public view the NHS and the election at the Future Challenges for the NHS conference.

Chris Ham – What are the challenges for the NHS?

Chris Ham, Chief Executive at The King's Fund, asks what the future holds for the coalition government and the NHS.

Questions from the floor

Chris Ham, Ben Page and Anna Dixon take questions from the floor at the Future Challenges for the NHS conference at The King's Fund.
