Patient power or professional capture?
A Big Society breakfast event
Event highlights
The second event in this series examined how the government's health reforms aiming to put patients at the heart of the NHS will link to the wider Big Society vision. The discussion touched on a number of issues including:
- How might increased choice and the 'information revolution' benefit patients?
- Will the government’s health reforms transfer control to patients or concentrate power in the hands of health professionals?
- Will the proposals encourage greater public engagement in health care?
Joining the Fund's chief executive, Professor Chris Ham, was Rt Hon Stephen Dorrell MP, chair of the Health Select Committee, Dr Clare Gerada, the RCGP’s new chair, and Dr Angela Coulter, an internationally-recognised authority on patient and public involvement in health care.
