On 17 September 2009, the Secretary of State for Health, Andy Burnham, made a major speech at The King's Fund outlining his future plans for the NHS. His speech included plans for a new multi-year tariff for the NHS, an increased emphasis on measuring patient and staff satisfaction, and proposals to abolish GP practice boundaries to allow people to register with the surgery of their choice.
He was joined in a panel discussion by John Adler, Chief Executive of Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust and John Appleby, Chief Economist at The King's Fund.
