We are piloting Experience-Based Co-Design, an innovative approach that involves patients and staff working together to improve the experience – or ‘feel’ – of using services.
The approach draws on ideas from design, in which users are a central part of the process. Patients and staff are partners in the process, strengthening the link between them.
We are piloting Experience-Based Co-Design with the Integrated Cancer Centre at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We’ve carried out interviews with patients and staff at both hospitals, filmed patients talking about their experiences and brought patients and staff together to review the results. Together they have identified touchpoints for improvement and we are beginning to see changes already in breast cancer services.
