Location

A corridor in Chase Farm Hospital, linking the x-ray department and operating theatres to wards, including the children's Kingfisher Ward.

Aims and outcomes

The project team wanted to transform a busy and bleak corridor into a calming space that would help relax patients on their way to theatre.

The team took inspiration from the name of the children's ward and created a design scheme and installation based on the theme of the kingfisher. A stained glass window and large photographs were commissioned, which, together with new flooring and muted ‘river’ colours, created a ‘kingfisher trail’ along the route of the corridor.

The stained glass window provides glimpses of sky and grass, helping to connect the corridor with the open space outside this part of the building.
