Approach
Caring Choices sought to keep the issue of long-term social care funding in the public eye and to press the government to make changes. It held seven all-day events in England and Scotland at which older people, carers and others with experience of the care system could debate the issues. It also set up a dedicated website to further extend the debate.
Those attending the meetings were provided with a copy of Securing Good Care for Older People and a Joseph Rowntree Foundation report on long-term care funding, Paying for Long-Term Care: Moving Forward. They were then invited to take part in discussions, Q&As and smaller group debates. Views on key issues were captured by electronic voting.
