Shaping the future of the health and social care system

2011 will see the passage of a Bill to reform the NHS and public health system, the publication of the findings of the Dilnot Commission into the future of social care funding, and further implementation of changes to the NHS and local authorities.

The Fund will seek to inform and influence the debate about the coalition government's proposals for the reform of the health and social care system.

This year we will:

  •  publish evidence on the lessons to be learnt from past implementation of market reforms
  • undertake policy analysis to support the development of policy and legislation, including work on accountability, regulation and mutualism
  • support local organisations as they seek to understand and implement these reforms, including learning from pathfinder GP consortia
  • continue our work on the future of long-term care to influence and respond to the Dilnot Commission
  • look beyond the current reforms to assess the key drivers for health and social care in future and how the system – individuals, organisations, and policy-makers – need to prepare and respond.
