Dame Jacqueline Docherty
After qualifying and working as a staff nurse and sister in Scotland, Jacqueline worked as a theatre sister for a year at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. Following this she was a Senior Sister at the Royal Free Hospital, London for five years.
On returning to Scotland Jacqueline held a variety of posts including Senior Nurse for Acute Services at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. She was appointed Deputy Director of Nursing at West Lothian NHS Trust prior to becoming a member of the Management Executive at the Department of Health, the Scottish Office for four years. Jacqueline's main areas of responsibility in the Scottish Office were in relation to quality, clinical effectiveness and audit.
In 1996 Jacqueline joined King's College Hospital as Executive Director of Nursing. She was also employed as an independent consultant to the Mexican Department of Health to support their Evidence-based Medicine programme from 1997-2000.
In September 1999 Jacqueline was appointed as London Regional Champion to help support and implement the 'Improving Working Lives' campaign and in 2001 she became the Director of Operations at King's.
In 2004 she was nominated as a member of the NHS Employers Assembly. Jacqueline was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire for services to nursing and the NHS in 2004 and was appointed Deputy Chief Executive at King's in 2007. In 2007 Jacqueline was appointed as a trustee to the General Nursing Council for England and Wales Trust.
She is currently Chief Executive at West Middlesex Hospital.
