Catherine Beardshaw

Retired NHS Chief Executive

Catherine Beardshaw trained as a radiographer in Sheffield and worked as a clinician for 20 years across South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire.

She moved into general management in 1995 and obtained a Master of Business Administration [MBA] from Durham University. She worked at Leeds Infirmary and then Leeds Teaching Hospitals for 14 years, learning her trade as a general manager in most clinical specialties before becoming Director of Operations in 2002.

She became Chief Executive of Warrington and Halton Hospitals in 2006, taking it to foundation trust status in 2009. She then moved to Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool as Chief Executive Officer in 2011 before retiring in 2015 after 42 years in the NHS.
